Description

Every successful residential construction project follows a structured management process that guides the project from conception through to completion and handover. Applying recognised project management principles enables project teams to define objectives, allocate resources, manage risks, monitor progress, control costs, and deliver quality outcomes in accordance with the project requirements.

This chapter introduces the five Project Management Process Groups as defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI) in its Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide).
It explains how these internationally recognised principles are applied in the South African residential construction industry. Although construction activities vary from project to project, these process groups provide a consistent framework for planning, executing, monitoring, and successfully delivering residential building projects.
